St. George and the Dragon Parallax Cross - Water jet cut Bronze Plate

I have entered a sculpture competition being held by St George's Cathedral in Perth Australia.

St Georges is seeking an artistic representation of the struggle between good and evil which will evoke the emotion of the legend and invite the community to explore these critical issues and challenges.

Artists are encouraged to push the boundaries of their imagination, to create new ideas and to challenge our preconceptions.

This sculpture is designed around the principle of the parallax, meaning the angle and distance of the viewer determines which of two distinctly different images will be seen. When approaching the sculpture from the front at the optimum viewing distance a perfect cross will be seen, defined by seven “floating” equilateral gilded gold squares supported by vertical “lines” that are actually the edges of the profile plates. As the viewers angle of observation changes, one will begin to see the edges of the profile plates give way to the dimensional image of St. George on horseback slaying the Dragon. The seven squares that define the cross are embedded perpendicular to the profile plates and also act as structural elements. The thirteen profile plates which depict St. George on horseback driving a lance into the dragon, are parallel to one another along the long axis of the sculpture

The layering and smoothness of the construction of St George Parallax Cross by ~livesteel is perfectly executed, I love the variety of different photos so you can see how the piece is constructed. ( Suggested by `Kitten-of-Woe and Featured by !Thebuild )
